When building an electric-vehicle range for export, one of the first questions importers ask is whether scooters or motorcycles will sell better in their market. The honest answer: both can, but they serve different riders, different roads and different regulations.
Commuter scooters in the 350-800W class are built for dense-city, last-mile trips. They are light, easy to park, cheap to run and suited to riders who do not hold a full motorcycle licence. Step-through mopeds in the same power band are a favourite for family errands, shopping runs and older riders who want convenience over speed.
Electric motorcycles, typically 2000-5000W with 72V LFP packs, deliver highway-capable speeds and a longer range. They suit ride-share and delivery fleets, commuters on open roads and performance buyers who want the motorcycle experience without the petrol bill.
Before you commit, compare the local regulation classes for each category, the availability of spare parts and the total cost over three years, not just the ticket price. A market dominated by congested capitals will move scooters; a market with wide roads and delivery networks will also need motorcycles.
Our advice is to order a mixed test container – minimum order is 10 units and mixed models are welcome – so your customers can ride before you scale. Contact EV-Riding for spec-matched recommendations.
